DEUEL COUNTY, Neb. (KETV) —Colorado’s gain is Nebraska’s pain. Its legal marijuana sales fund schools, construction and budgets, but it’s draining Nebraska law enforcement dry.
So why isn’t anyone doing something about it? It appears lawmakers want to take a wait-and-see approach, but while they’re waiting, police are panicking as department budgets dwindle as they try to fight a never-ending war on weed.
Just this year, there’s so much cannabis confiscated and locked up in Deuel County, if sold illegally, it could buy deputies new cruisers.
“One in every five cars, we are now finding something in there,” Hayward said.
